SeedWitness

A companion device for your seed words.

SeedWitness generates fresh seed words from your own dice rolls or coin flips, and checks the seed words you already keep on paper. It never signs a transaction and it never touches a network.

What it does

•  Roll. Turn physical dice rolls or coin flips into standard BIP39 seed words. 50 rolls for a 12 word seed, 100 for 24.
•  Check backup. Enter the seed words you already hold, derive a receiving address, and compare it against the address your wallet shows.
•  Save account. Store public key data only, so you can derive addresses later without a secret ever being held on the device.
•  Move seed. Show a seed as a compact SeedQR, ready to transfer or to etch into steel.
•  Add passphrase. Generate an optional 6 to 10 word passphrase from the published list, again from your own rolls.
•  Demo mode. Walk through every screen with nothing saved, so you can learn the device before you trust it.

What it deliberately does not do

No signing. No transactions. No PSBTs. No multisig. No altcoins. No camera. No network.

Hardware and software

A resistive touchscreen board in a clear acrylic case, running MicroPython. The firmware is open source under the MIT licence, so you can read exactly what it does before you rely on it.

Your entropy should come from something you can see. Roll the dice yourself and witness the seed being built.
