Applying Thermal Paste on a Bitaxe Gamma

🛠️ What You’ll Need

  • Thermal paste (LK-17 Available at Shop Bitcoin Australia)
  • Isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher)
  • Lint-free cloth or cotton swabs
  • Small screwdriver
  • Optional: thermal paste spatula

🔧 Instructions

  1. Power Down & Cool

    • Turn off and unplug the Bitaxe Gamma.
    • Allow it to fully cool before proceeding.
  1. Remove the Heatsink/Radiator & Fan

    • Carefully detach the fan and heatsink.
    • Disconnect the fan cable if needed.

  2. Clean the Surfaces

    • Wipe away old thermal paste from the ASIC chip and heatsink using isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth or swab.
    • Ensure both surfaces are clean and dry.
  3. Apply New Thermal Paste

    • Place a small pea-sized amount in the centre of the ASIC chip, the size of a long-grain piece of rice will work fine.
    • You may optionally spread it evenly using a spatula or let the heatsink pressure distribute it. See what you're comfortable with given the amount of paste you use.
  4. Reattach Heatsink and Fan

    • Gently place the heatsink back, aligning it properly.
    • Mount it in with even pressure.
    • Reconnect the fan cable.
  5. Power On and Check

    • Plug in and power on the unit.
    • Monitor temperature to ensure effective heat transfer.
